NANO?...NOOOOOO...
So I'm talking to my roommate mas (short for Masaya...Ma-Say-YA) on
Tuesday and we're mulling over coupons and circulars trying to be
responsible and actually GO grocery shopping (ya know...instead of the
fast food take out cuisine we've BEEN doing everyday) and she sees a
flyer for a new $.99 Cent store that's advertising "FIRST 9
CUSTOMERS GET A NANO IPOD...retail $199" so we're laughing about
it and I say that I got nuthin' better to do and I'd go check it out. Welp
I go weds night on a "recon" mission with my sister Gaby to see if anyone
was waiting in line yet (I figured if there was already some people in line
at 11pm at night then it wasn't worth me gettin up in the morning to try
and get one, or even worse I might toy with the idea of spending the night
to get one) well it doesn't matter because we roll up to the 99 cent store
on Weds night at 11:30pm and there is already like 25-30 people waiting
for the store to open at 8am the next morning. I wasn't really THAT
bummed about it, I mean I already have an ipod (video one at that...very
cool) but I thought "what the hell, I'll get an ipod and either give it to
someone or sell it...it's all about the thrill of the hunt for me!" and seeing
as I wasn't gonna wait in line for a scooter (the 2nd runner up prize for
the 99 fools after the 9 who get their precious NANO, willing to freeze
their asses off) I decided to go home BUT not before asking the first
person in line what time she got there (curiosity kills me sometimes!) and
she answers: " oh 6am TUESDAY MORNING!" (and I'm thinkin,"that is
NOT worth waiting practically 3 days for in the freezing cold, but more
power to her because at this point she was only 8.5 hours away from
rockin out on her new ipod" ) so I congratulated her and left. She was a
woman in her late 40's early 50's and I wondered if she was waiting for
herself or maybe to give to her daughter (I don't know if she had a
daughter I was just guessing) but either way by 10am Thursday morning
the corner of Victory and Vineland in North Hollywood was a MESS. Tons
of people waiting to get sumpin' for free and even on the news (my sister
Gaby called this morning they had a news crew over there) maybe I'll
stop by tomorrow and get myself something pretty...
keep on rockin in the free world --
Carla
